Chunky Knit Baskets with Love Fest Fibers

Learn how to create a basket using giant yarn. In this class you'll be working with hand-felted wool and a pair of size 50 needles. Once you get going, this mega chunky yarn works up quickly creating huge, textural stitches. stitches. You’ll be working with Tough Love yarn, Love Fest Fibers’ collection of 100% New Zealand wool that’s hand-felted by women artisans in Nepal. We'll be exploring the process behind the materials, the artisan traditions of the Himalayan region and techniques for knitting with chunky yarn. By the end of the class, you'll have your own basket that's ideal as a planter or for stylishly stashing just about anything. This class is perfect for both beginners and experienced knitters alike.

Based in San Francisco, Love Fest Fibers designs yarn and soft goods that celebrate the rich fiber craft traditions of our artisan and pastoralist partners. We aim to spark creativity in makers while creating meaningful opportunities to support and elevate fiber producing communities. From Nepal and Tibet to our home on the West Coast, our products are made in small batches in family-run workshops.

TEACHER BIO
Britt-Marie Alm is the Owner and Chief String Slinger of Love Fest Fibers, a San Francisco-based yarn and fiber goods company. Britt has spent much of the past two decades living on the Tibetan Plateau and founded Love Fest with the aim of supporting artisan and fiber-producing communities. Britt designs textiles through carefully nurtured partnerships in the Nepal, Tibet and at home on the West Coast.
